Abstract

My submission is poem about my great-grandmother, Maagenda, who I was named for, about African family particularly within the diaspora, and about the intergenerational trauma of the neo-colonial blood diamond war. It is essentially about carrying the weight of your ancestors, and of the generations of African mothers who fought for and created us.
